Abdelkader’s Journey from Algeria to Turkey for Treatment

We are pleased to share the inspiring story of our patient Abdelkader, who traveled from Médéa, Algeria, to our hospital in Turkey in search of medical treatment.

The Medical Condition:
Abdelkader was suffering from splenomegaly (enlarged spleen) and portal hypertension, raising concerns that he might require a liver transplant based on his initial medical reports.

Accurate Diagnosis:
Upon Abdelkader’s arrival, our team of specialized surgeons conducted thorough evaluations. The results revealed that his liver was still healthy. However, he was diagnosed with a thrombosis (blood clot) at the pancreatic outlet. This condition rendered him unsuitable for the TIPS procedure, a common intervention for alleviating portal hypertension in similar cases.

The Treatment Plan:
After a detailed consultation among our surgical team, we decided to proceed with splenic embolization. This minimally invasive procedure reduces blood flow to the spleen, helping to redirect some blood away from the portal venous system. This approach can help lower portal hypertension and minimize the risk of complications such as variceal bleeding.

The Outcome:
Following the successful completion of the procedure, Abdelkader experienced a significant improvement in his condition. His portal hypertension decreased, reducing the likelihood of serious complications and enhancing his quality of life.
