Prof. Atila Tanyeli biography:
Prof. Atila Tanyeli is a highly experienced pediatric hematologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders. With a career spanning decades, he focuses on conditions such as anemia, clotting disorders, thrombosis, and various hematological malignancies like leukemia and lymphoma. Prof. Atila Tanyeli has contributed to numerous scientific publications, including over 50 international and 100 national articles, and he holds several leadership roles in professional associations. He also has a strong background in training, having attended significant educational programs in renowned medical centers in the UK, the USA, and Poland.
Prof. Atila Tanyeli has been working in the field for over 30 years, with significant experience in pediatric hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation. He has contributed to the development of pediatric hematology services and treatment protocols, particularly in bone marrow transplants for children.

Prof. Atila Tanyeli academic Titles and History:
Prof. Atila Tanyeli completed medical school at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine (1972-1978) and specialized in Child Health and Diseases at Çukurova University (1978-1983), where they later became an Assistant Professor (1989) and earned a Professorship (1996). They obtained subspecialties in Pediatric Hematology (1994) and Pediatric Oncology (2004). Their career at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine spanned from 1987 to 2014, working in the Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, and Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation. They later founded and led Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Centers at Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital (2010-2016) and Şişli Memorial Hospital, where they have served as Founder and President since 2016.
Bone Marrow Transplant Experience:
Prof. Atila Tanyeli has been actively involved in Stem Cell Transplantation (SCT) since 1990. In 1992, he established Turkey’s second Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Center at Çukurova University, where he performed his first autologous transplant on a patient with relapsed Hodgkin’s disease. He also conducted Turkey’s first cord blood transplant in 1996.With extensive international experience, he has participated in over 50 bone marrow transplants abroad and successfully completed more than 200 transplants at Çukurova University. In 2014, he established pediatric and adult BMT centers, along with stem cell and freezing laboratories, at Private Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital (GOP), where he performed over 50 transplants.Since April 2016, Prof. Atila Tanyeli has been leading the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Service and Bone Marrow Transplant Center at Şişli Memorial Hospital. To date (April 2024), he has overseen 150 successful transplants and continues to advance in this field.
Interests and Projects:
Prof. Atila Tanyeli has been actively involved in hospital development projects since 2010, preparing and presenting three major project drafts to various institutions:
- A University Project incorporating a hospital complex.
- Hospital complexes with a capacity of 1,000 beds.
A 100-bed Pediatric and Adult Blood Diseases, Cancer, and Transplantation Hospital.
In addition, Prof. Atila Tanyeli has prepared a comprehensive project on Cord Blood Banking. During the preparation phase, he conducted visits to several prominent cord blood banks, including the Anthony Nolan Cord Blood Bank in England, Warsaw Famicord in Poland, Ankara Yaşam Bank, and Acıbadem Kordon Bank in Turkey.
More recently, he has focused on Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) research and regenerative medicine. He has submitted two projects to the Ministry of Health:
- MSC and exosome therapies for the treatment of Autism in children.
- MSC treatment for Cerebral Palsy.
Overseas Duties:
- 1990: Observed Stem Cell Transplantation at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Department of Haematology, Cambridge, England, for 3 months.
- 1991: Worked as an observer on Stem Cell Transplantation for 3 months at The Royal Free Hospital, Department of Haematology, London, England.
- 1992: Returned as an observer on Stem Cell Transplantation for another 3 months at The Royal Free Hospital, Department of Haematology, London, England.
- Since 1996: Active member of EBMT (European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation), with regular participation in all meetings held in Europe.
- Assigned to Anthony Nolan Cord Blood Bank in Nottingham for one week to study Cord Blood Banking under the European Union Erasmus Programs.
