Prof. Kamil Yalcin Polat biography:
Prof. Kamil Yalcin Polat graduated from Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine in 1986, ranking second in his class. Throughout his academic career, he specialized in hepatobiliary transplantation and oncological surgery. From 1998 to 2000, he undertook fellowship training in multi-organ transplantation (liver, kidney, pancreas, and small intestine) at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. During this period, he also worked as a visiting surgeon at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute. In 2004, he conducted the first organ transplant in Eastern Anatolia. To date, he has personally carried out over 2,000 liver transplants and nearly 1,500 kidney transplants.
Prof. Kamil Yalcin Polat made history as the first surgeon globally to successfully perform a living donor liver transplant without the use of blood or blood products. Additionally, he performed a successful split domino transplant and conducted one of Europe’s first robotic-assisted living donor liver surgeries. He also successfully split the smallest cadaveric liver and transplanted it into two pediatric patients. With more than 100 articles published in international journals, he currently chairs the Liver Transplantation Scientific Committee of the Ministry of Health.
